Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will launch the National Monetization Pipeline (NMP) on Monday, which will list government infrastructure assets for sale over the next four years, according to the finance ministry.
“The NMP includes a four-year pipeline of brownfield infrastructure assets from the central government. In addition to providing visibility to investors, the NMP will also serve as a medium-term roadmap for the monetization initiative. government assets, ”the finance ministry said in a statement. on Sunday.
Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey said earlier this month that the government was finalizing ??Infrastructure assets worth 6 lakh crore, including national highways and power grid pipelines, which would be monetized.
“A national monetization plan of approximately ??$ 6 trillion is on the horizon which will include a range of assets from pipelines and power grid pipelines to national highways, ToT (toll-operate-transfer) and so on, “Pandey said.
The 2021-2022 Union budget has placed great emphasis on the monetization of assets as a means of raising innovative and alternative financing for infrastructure.
In his budget speech, Sitharaman said that monetizing operating public infrastructure assets is a very important financing option for building new infrastructure.
“A national pipeline to monetize potential brownfield infrastructure assets will be launched. An asset monetization dashboard will also be created to track progress and provide visibility to investors,” she said.
The government views asset monetization as a strategy for increasing and maintaining infrastructure, not just a financing mechanism.
The NMP book will be published in the presence of NITI Vice President Aayog Rajiv Kumar, NITI CEO Aayog Amitabh Kant and the secretaries of the relevant ministries whose assets constitute the monetization pipeline.
